Nature and Peace

14Oct11

Weekly veggie dinner Thursday!

We went to Taksim to try out Nature and Peace. From the outside, it looked like a peaceful oasis amid the chaos of İstiklâl Caddesi.

And then we got in…and were treated to earthy decor and 90s R&B being played while Lady Gaga and Britney Spears wannabes danced across the two televisions. Interesting juxtaposition, no?

Not exactly what one expects when heading to a hippie, vegetarian place. Though the food pyramid place mats were kinda cute.

We started off with some mutabbel, essentially hummus but made with eggplant instead of chickpeas. Baba ghanoush, if you’ve ever had it.

For my main, I saw falafel on the menu and had to give it a try, obvi.

Little did I know, that was ALL I’d be getting.

Yes, I’m an ignorant American and expected a pita, some veggies, just something beyond chickpea balls.

They were some good chickpea balls, but just chillin’ alone on my plate? Awkward.
